Danielle Woolbank

– Exhibitions, Saturday 14th November 2009

Danielle’s practice explores themes of gender, identity and the body.  Through the use of voice, costume and bodily gestures in live and mediated performances, as well as collage, video installation and sound work, Danielle investigates possible relationships between notions of Carnivale and the female grotesque in a contemporary art context.  Making use of parody in her works, she intends to produce alternative representations to the sexualised essentialist stereotype of the female as portrayed in mainstream media.

Danielle performed and curated the live contemporary performance art exhibition POW in June 2009, held at Accidentally Annie Street Space, a Brisbane artist run initiative. She has also exhibited in various group shows in 2007 and 2008 at Metro Arts.  Danielle is a current graduate from BFA Honours (Visual Arts) QUT and examples of her work from 2008, can be viewed at www.nowalls.qut.edu.au.  Upcoming shows include Pashing Seatbelts BFA Honours Graduate Show at The Block, Creative Industries, Kelvin Grove November 3-6, 2009 and a collaborative work with Elizabeth Willing Cheap Frills held at No Frills ARI, Metro Arts, November 28, 2009.
