Sexy Knickers

– Performance, Saturday 14th November 2009

This piece is an explosive funky fusion of live and digitalised music, spoken word/slam poetry, movement, dance and story. This project flirts with contemporary performance and inter-arts and is heavily influenced by popular cultures throughout the ages. This will be a love story. A universal love story, not between two ‘definite’ individuals, but rather a love story between dance and music throughout history. There will be interludes during the piece of spoken word/slam poetry, flirtations between dancers and musicians, and interactions between audio-visual elements and live performers.

Ack Kinmonth is a composer/producer/performer from Brisbane, Australia. He has composed music for Warner Brothers Movie World, QUT, and television shows such as “Movie Munchies”, “The Sketch Show” and upcoming pilot of “Beautiville”.

Madeleine Johns is an emerging musician and contemporary composer. Last year, she completed her Bachelor of Music (production) at the Queensland University of Technology with a minor in Creative Industries Management. Whilst studying this degree, she met choreographer Ian Colless and they collaborated with Major Brisbane Festivals and Opera Queensland on a contemporary piece, which was performed at the Brisbane Festival Indigenous Closing Ceremony 09. Currently, they are working on a new work entitled Styling Up. Her classical training and knowledge of multiple instruments, including the trumpet and piano, have allowed her to add a unique element to her compositions, which merge the acoustic and electronic medium while exploring the unconventional use of traditional instruments and sounds.

This passion informs the creative philosophy behind Sexy Knickers; her theatre collective she co-founded with Genevieve Butler in 2008.
