The Deconverters

– Performance, Friday 13th November 2009, Saturday 14th November 2009

Lady Godiva (fl. 1040-1080), was an Anglo-Saxon noblewoman who, according to legend, rode naked through the streets of Coventry, in England, in order to gain a remission of the oppressive taxation imposed by her husband on his tenants. (wiki)

Faster Lady Godiva Faster! is a farcical and absurd journey into amazing feats of women in mythology and folk law. Their supernatural powers and their embarrassing failures. It gives ever-rising real estate prices a wet willy and waggles its finger in a most disapproving manner at two dimensional and highly sexualized depictions of women. But all is not lost, just temporarily misplaced.

Devised and performed by Jane Grimley, Natalie Randal, Carolyn Eccles and Felicity Nicol this work unravels through a series of sharp witted punchy stories and images. It influences are physical theatre, clowning, performance art and spoken word. No animals will be harmed in the making of this play. The horse you will see is just a gumboot on a broomstick; however we did spend a long time looking at taxidermaphied pharlap when we went to Melbourne.
